Each coin has a current price in US dollars. To convert between any two assets, the tool first values your amount in USD, then divides by the price of the target asset. Converting BTC to ETH, for example, finds the dollar value of your bitcoin and expresses it in ether at the current ETH price.
Prices are pulled from our market data and refreshed roughly every hour, so they closely track live exchange rates without hammering the source on every visit.
